Honduran Contestant on American Idol

American Idol Season 7 Contestant Profile: David Archuleta

David Archuleta is not only favored by the American Idol judges, but is developing a large group of fans from watchers all over America. His past two performances have been coined as the “best of the night” by all three judges. Fans seem to be smitten with his beautiful vocals, mature sound, and his big heart.

At only 17, he has blown away viewers, but not only with his powerful singing voice. Viewers can see something else in David; he has the ability to draw people in with his charisma and passion for singing.

Paula even admitted that she wanted a miniature version of him to dangle from her rear view mirror. It created quite the laugh among the crowd, but who could deny they didn’t feel the same way? Although, I’m sure younger viewers than myself, feel that they can relate to him and I can see the possibility of many girls swooning at the sight of him.

David Archuleta’s hometown is in Murray, UT and from the weekly interview on AmericanIdol.com we find that David is half-Honduran and actually visited Honduras a few years ago with his family. While he was there he sang at carnival. During his performance his voice gave out and his mother stepped on stage to finish the song for him; he says this was his most embarrassing moment.

David has been singing since he was 7 and has had the opportunity to participate in voice lessons since he was 12. On top of lessons he has the experience of singing in front of large groups, as mentioned above. He also sang for the 1st season of American Idol contestants in the lobby of a hotel as well as for a fire department in New York who lost 14 members on 9/11.

Does his voice lessons and stage performance experience give him an advantage? I don’t think it necessarily does, there are other contestants who have been band members and received voice lessons as well. I personally believe he is the best contestant by far as of now.

Fast Voice Traffic to Honduras

US National Telecom, through its wholesale subsidiary, is now offering quality voice traffic routes to El Salvador and Honduras. This month, USNT’s subsidiary anticipates $50,000 international traffic increase over January’s gross revenue.

Gregory Giagnocavo, US National Telecom president said in a statement that establishing direct-connect routes is the key for growth for a smaller telecom company such as USNT’s family of companies. The company anticipates an ever-increasing number of telephone calls to Central America.

Giagnocavo observed that the Hispanic community makes more than 100 million minutes of phone calls a month and the market is growing at over 10 percent per year.

USNT explains that they are a rapidly growing family of New Generation telecom companies using VoIP. This technology enables the Company’s network to receive an incoming call and direct it to a local Internet/telco POP (point of presence). From this point the call is transported over the Internet to a local POP, and then travels the remaining distance over the Honduran telephone system to the final intended destination.

US National Telecom’s subsidiary envisions that its position as a wholesale carrier solutions provider will grow, as it seeks to increase its share of international voice traffic.

Headquartered in Denver, Colorado, US National Telecom (USNT) is a publicly traded technology company. They focus on building a large VoIP and Internet services company by expanding to process international voice traffic and acquiring companies in the VoIP services and technology marketplace.

Real Honduras triumphs in Copa Latina soccer

Holding a one-goal lead midway through the second half, Real Honduras thwarted any hopes of an Estudiantes de Guaya comeback with two quick strikes.

Robert Caseres scored in the 65th minute, and Lenin Puerto followed with a penalty-kick conversion five minutes later to secure Real Honduras’ 3-0 victory in a Copa Latina second-round match Sunday at Ted Hendricks Stadium in Hialeah.

The victory advances Real Honduras to the tournament quarterfinals against Real Espana next Sunday.

Earlier, Seleccion Peru held off Honduras Heat’s late rally and advanced with a 2-1 victory.

Milton Marquillo and Remy Salazar scored in an 11-minute span in the first half to give Peru a 2-0 lead.

Honduras Heat’s Jorge Zapata scored with a minute remaining in the match, reducing the Peru advantage. Peru pressured the Honduras Heat defense through stoppage time but failed to score the equalizer.

Peru will play Honduras 5 Stars in a quarterfinal match next Sunday.

In other matches:

• Real Espana 3, Liga Cristianos 2 (Espana wins on penalty kicks 4-2): Franklin Blaise’s successful conversion in the fifth round of the penalty-kick session clinched the victory and eliminated Liga Cristianos, last year’s tournament runner-up.

• Honduras 5 Stars 10, Seleccion Chile 1: Orlando Bueso and Eduardo Ravenna each scored three goals as 5 Stars broke the game open with eight second-half goals.

• Note: The two Copa Latina semifinal matches, scheduled for March 7, have been switched to March 6, to accommodate an exhibition match between the Honduran Under-23 national team and the Copa Latina All-Stars on March 7 at Ted Hendricks Stadium.
