Honduras not prepared in case of Swine Flu outbreak

The president of the Honduran Chemical and Pharmaceutical Association, Alfredo Farach said Honduras is not prepared for a possible Swine Flu outbreak because the vaccine against the illness is not available in Honduras, the only available medications are anti-virals that have had good results in other countries.

The anti-virals available are Jucamin, a chinese vaccine, Glulacol and Tamiflux available on the Honduran market.

According to Farach, Tamiflux is the same as Tamiflu that other countries that have reported cases of the Swine Flu such as the United States are distributing.

Tamiflux is a very strong anti-viral and could be the medication that will be used in Honduras.

Symptoms of swine flu similar to regular flu symptoms and include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills, and fatigue. Some people have reported diarrhea and vomiting associated with swine flu. People presenting any of these symptoms should seek medical attention as soon as posible to prevent the flu. If your doctor suspects swine flu, patients will be given high doses of medication to avoid the swine flu during the first 48 hours to avoid spreading. The swine flu could be fatal if not treated during the first 48 hours after first symptoms appear.

The swine flu virus spreads just like regular flu. And you could pick up germs directly from an infected person, or by touching an object they recently touched, and then touching your eyes, mouth, or nose, delivering their germs for your own infection. Infected people can start spreading flu germs up to a day before symptoms start, and for up to seven days after getting sick.

Recommendations to prevent swine flu:
Wash your hands regularly with soap and water or alcohol based hand cleaner, especially after coughing or sneezing.
Avoid close contact with sick people
Avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose
