Another Tremor on the Islands

This morning from Utila, one of the Bay Islands off the coast of Honduras, a citizen informed Hondurasnews.com that an aftertremor was felt this morning. “It was strong enough that plates in the house shook.”

As of this hour, the USGS has not updated to report any activity in the area of Honduras.

Visit from Ecuador’s President

Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa Delgado is visiting Honduras today to strengthen bilateral relations.

Accompanied by Foreign Minister Fander Falconi, Correa will meet with President Manuel Zelaya, to whom he intends to explain the process of changes carried out in his South American country.

“This visit is aimed at promoting Latin American integration, sharing Ecuador’s experience in drawing up a new Constitution, in the Democratic Reform of the State and in strengthening the National Planning System,” an official communicate says.

Not Worth a Penny-Human Rights Watch

Human Rights Watch Friday called on Honduran officials to end the amount of violence against transgender people.

Government leaders were asked to investigate and prosecute those responsible for various abuses. The group also called on Honduran authorities to repeal legal provisions on “public morality” and “public scandal” that enable abuse.

The group said there is widespread abuses based on gender identity; including rape, beatings, extortion, and arbitrary detentions by law enforcement officials.

At least seventeen transgender people have been killed in public in Honduras since 2004 they claim, none of which have led to a prosecution.
