Radio HRN’s building was compromised yesterday evening, with the explosion of a grenade inside. One person may have lost the hearing in one ear, and another was hit by shrapnel. The blast went off around 10:30 p.m. while a broadcast was taking place.
Radio HRN was honoring its 76th year of broadcasting Sunday.
The M26-type hand grenade was launched around 10:30 pm from a vehicle, security ministry spokesman Orlin Cerrato said. Police found the grenade’s safety clip in the back of the building, which is only guarded by security guards at the front entrance that overlooks Suyapa Boulevard. Police are still investigating.
