Honduras’ Foreign Ministry is filing a complaint to the International Court of Justice in The Hague “over Brazil’s interference in the country’s internal affairs.”
“The Brazilian embassy in Tegucigalpa cannot be a place from where political activity is being carried out to the detriment of Honduras’ national security,” interim Foreign Minister Carlos Lopez said.
Lopez said Zelaya’s stay in the embassy allowed the ousted leader to repeatedly address the population urging disobedience and mass protests against the current Honduran government.
“Honduras retains the right to turn to international legal institutions as well as take preventive measures to terminate the Brazilian side’s illegal activity aimed at changing the current order, and will seek the compensation of the inflicted damage,” he said.
