Two men who tried to avoid a checkpoint were arrested for having in their possession 424 bundles of marijuana.
The incident occurred last night in the border community of Santa Rosa Concepcion de Maria, where police operations were performed. Upon seeing the checkpoint, the driver of the truck accelerated in an attempt to flee the inspection. The subjects were traveling to the border town of Choluteca, with a truck full of oranges and fruits, under which was found concealed packages weighing about five pounds each.
Two of the three suspects were captured after police chased the truck. The detainees are Ovilson Avila Maldonado, 46, and Jesus Edilberto Guardado, 28, a third suspect got away. According to investigators, the drugs were brought from Atlantida, and were destined for Nicaragua.
