Airport Taxes Going Up

Edgardo Maradiaga, Honduras Airports Manager, said the airports are increasing their taxes this month, and the money will be used for infrastructure investment to provide greater security for domestic and international passengers.

The decision was made according to the inflation rate registered by the Central Bank of Honduras (BCH), which is 2.4 percent. The Manager of the Airports of Honduras said that of all the income they generate, the State of Honduras receives 24.4 percent.

The new rate to be paid by a passenger for domestic flights is 31.96 Lempiras, and 564.25 Lempiras for international flights. Domestic shipping is raised from 221.73 Lempiras to 225.70 Lempiras, while international shipping is raised from 1099.02 Lempiras to 1128.70 Lempiras.

These rates are regulated according to an agreement reached in October of 2000 between the Airports of Honduras and the Government of Honduras.
