COPECO Maintains Red Alert

The Permanent Contingency Commission (COPECO) maintains a red alert in five departments:

Valle and Choluteca in the south of the country, where the river levels of the Choluteca and Goascorán pose risks to people, in addition to the rains increasing danger from saturated soil and flooding; and

In the lower areas of the municipalities surrounding the Ulua river bank: Potrerillos, Pimienta, San Manuel, and Puerto Cortés in the Department of Cortés, also El Progreso, Santa Rita and El Negrito in the Department of Yoro, and el Tigre in Atlántida.

The rest of the country is under a yellow alert, but forecasters say the weather is improving. Caution must be maintained until conditions are favorable and present no risk to life, especially those living in areas vulnerable to landslides or floods.
