The head of the Epidemiology and Surveillance of the Ministry of Health, Bredy Lara, announced today that the most affected by this disease are people under the age of 20.

He also said that there are about two thousand 243 people who are suspected to have contracted chikungunya.

Both diseases, whose symptoms are similar, are transmitted through the mosquito Aedes aegyptis.

Lara, recalled that this is a social problem and urged the Honduran people to take hygienic measures to prevent a further spread of the epidemic.

In November, the country had about 29 thousand people infected with dengue and throughout the year, five died because of the disease.
