Easter Week – Safe Summer 2013 Report

Members of the National Commission for the Prevention of Accidents (Comisión Nacional para la Prevención de Accidentes – Conapra) reported yesterday that as part of the operations of the campaign “Safe Summer 2013” there were 21 deaths from drowning or submersion, two more than the previous year, and 19 deaths by traffic accidents, 10 less than the 29 people killed nationwide in 2012.
Overall, in the period of Easter 2013, 40 people died.

The police chief explained that this year there were 144 collisions with property damage, 21 less than the previous year. There were 52 reported road traffic injuries, while in 2012 there were 73 injured.

On the other hand, Nelly Jerez, Minister of Tourism, said that nationwide, from Friday the 22nd to Thursday the 28th,  1,826,381 Hondurans moved to different entertainment centers throughout the country; and over 38,000 tourists from Central America came to Honduras, in which 74% entered through land.

“The Ministry of Tourism has met the goal of having more than two million tourists, both domestic and foreign,” Jerez said.
