The heads of the Armed Forces of Honduras (FFAA) has assured the public that the delivery of election materials is being executed according to the planned schedule of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE)
The delivery of voter registration paraphernalia began Monday (yesterday), at 7:00 a.m. for the departments of Atlántida, Colón, Yoro and Cortés, and continued today for the areas of Copán, Lempira, Ocotepeque and Santa Bárbara.
Wednesday, Intibucá, Comayagua and La Paz will be receiving their materials, and on Thursday, Choluteca, Valle, El Paraíso and Nacaome. Friday deliveries include Gracias a Dios and the Bay Islands, with Olancho, the Central District, and Francisco Morazán set for Saturday.
The head of the armed forces, René Osorio Canales explained that they are working together with the authorities of the TSE; and that so far they have faced no obstacles. He informed that the TSE is busy organizing and fulfilling many detailed obligations to ensure the primary election process on Sunday, November 18, 2012, proceeds without any difficulties.
“We are analyzing the weather for any setbacks to delivering electoral packages, mainly in remote areas of our country,” said Osorio Canales.
The military leader explained that Sunday’s election will have two to three troops stationed at each polling place to ensure safety, and noted that the National Police will patrol in all cities. “Everything is going according to schedule and we are on track,” he concluded.
An estimated 15,000 troops will support the primary elections on Sunday.
