The coordinator of certifications from SENASA, Miguel Angel Soler, said that Honduras’s foreign exchange has improved in the last few years because they have not had any rejections of shipments due to sanitary reasons.
In that regard, he explained that national companies ship approximately 20 million boxes of melon to the European and U.S. markets.
In addition to the crops of melon planted in the valley of Comayagua, there has been a rise in the planting of non-traditional oriental vegetables. These products are exported to the United States, which the Asian community that resides there consumes frequently.
Soler indicated that in Honduras they are taking appropriate measures to prevent pests during the growing season, and added that the measures meet all of the phytosanitary requirements for export.
