Green Alert for 48 Hours More

The Permanent Contingency Commission (COPECO) declared a green alert for the next 48 hours for the departments of Gracias a Dios, Colón, Olancho, El Paraíso, Valle, Choluteca, Comayagua and Francisco Morazán, due to the passage of tropical wave number 14 through Honduras, and the early formation of a low pressure system.

“The green warning statement is for saturation in both soils and watersheds, which could lead to landslides and floods in some areas,” Copeco said in a statement.

The Honduras National Weather Service (NWS) announced that the rains will increase Monday, and the current weather conditions will continue Sunday, with moderate rains falling throughout Saturday.

Meteorological reports in Honduras show the accumulated rainfall will reach 100 millimeters in the next 24 hours.

Copeco recommends to the population living in areas where it is raining, to be alert to the increase in the flow of rivers, streams or creeks and refrain from crossing them.
