Green, Red and Yellow Alerts in Effect

Tropical wave number 22 is causing heavy rains throughout Honduras.

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) and the Permanent Contingency Commission (COPECO) declared a green alert for 72 hours beginning at 1:00 pm yesterday for the departments of Gracias a Dios, Olancho, El Paraíso, Choluteca, Valle, Francisco Morazán, Comayagua, La Paz, Santa Bárbara, Intibucá, Lempira, Ocotepeque and Copán.

According to the analysis of the SMN, the highest rainfall will occur in the central region, including Tegucigalpa and the surrounding areas west, south, east and southeast of the country.

Normal rainfall is expected to fall in the rest of Honduras.

In addition, Copeco decided to extend for 72 hours, beginning at 1:00 pm yesterday, a red alert for communities located on the banks of the Ulua River.

The red alert in effect includes all communities in Potrerillos, San Manuel, Choloma and Puerto Cortés, in the department of Cortés, El Progreso, Santa Rita and El Negrito, in the department of Yoro.
Communities surrounding the Chamelecon river are also on yellow alert for 72 hours.
