Honduran Journalist to Receive Award

Reporters Without Borders has announced that Honduran radio journalist Karla Rivas, news editor for Radio Progreso, has been selected as the 2011 winner of the Peter Mackler Award for Courageous and Ethical Journalism.

Rivas will be awarded the prize at a ceremony at the National Press Club in Washington, DC on 20 October 2011. Rivas is the first woman to receive the Award.

Journalist Karla Rivas works for Radio Progreso, a radio station covering current events, sports, and arts news. Radio Progreso challenges censorship and attempts to promote dialogue within Honduran society.
