Health authorities confirmed today the death of another person due to Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF), of which already 25 patients in Honduras have died from this year. The head of the Department of Epidemiology at the Hospital School, Cristina Rodríguez, told reporters that victim number 25 of DHF is a woman who died in the state hospital. The woman, originally from the Department of El Paraíso in eastern Honduras, was in critical condition when she came in to the hospital, but a specific date was not given.

According to records from the Honduras Department of Health, so far this year some 26,700 people have become ill with classical type Dengue, while those who are suspected of having contracted severe or hemorrhagic exceeds 3,400.

In 2012, Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever deaths in Honduras were only two; in 2011 there was not one case; and in 2010, persons who succumbed to the disease totaled 83, the highest number so far recorded in Honduras.
