The proposal to reduce the punishable age to be tried as an adult for a crime from 18 years of age to 16 years, will be officially decided by the three branches of government.
The initiative establishes that many children are used by organized crime to commit offenses because they will not be held fully accountable due to their age. Honduran law specifies that children under age 18 are not criminally responsible, something regulated by the Code of Children and Adolescents, as well as international treaties and agreements signed by Honduras.

Health officials closed the Luis Bogran Technical Institute today for the spread of H1N1 amongst students, and yesterday three private schools suspended classes due to an increase in influenza type B and A/H1N1. Authorities are determining whether all bilingual schools in San Pedro Sula should be temporarily closed.
The closure of schools would depend on the outcome of a meeting of the health and education authorities, who agreed to take measures against the threat of an H1N1 pandemic. H1N1 killed 16 people across the country last year. People with symptoms should go to health centers or public hospitals to be tested.

33.6 million pseudo-ephedrine pills that arrived from China were confiscated by Honduran police at Puerto Cortez, but no arrests have been made, according to Security Minister Oscar Alvarez. Investigators are trying to determine who the shipment was intended for.
Ephedrine and pseudoephedrine are used to manufacture illegal stimulants like methamphetamine and ecstasy.
7 million pseudo-ephedrine tablets arrived last year at the airports in San Pedro Sula and Tegucigalpa, mainly from Bangladesh, and were seized by the Honduran authorities.
