Reinaldo Rueda, who took the Honduran Selección to the World Cup in South Africa for 2010, will no longer be coach of the Honduran National team, he revealed at a press conference yesterday. Accompanied by his staff, he said goodbye, with tears for the country that was his home for the past three years.

“It was a very difficult decision, because these noble people have always shown us great affection and respect. We will always be eternally grateful.”

The conference ended with great emotion, as Reinaldo Rueda choked on his tears. All present were respectfully silent, but after a moment burst into a loud applause.

Amado Guevara is joined by fellow prominent Honduran internationals Iván Guerrero, Emilio Izaguirre, Sergio Mendoza, and Georgie Welcome in tonight’s CONCACAF preliminary round game. Those stars are joined by a series of young players that have helped Motagua move beyond their disappointing eighth place finish in last year’s Clausura. Jerry Bengtson, who plays for Vida of La Ceiba, was injured in a traffic accident this past weekend

A friend of Bengtson’s was driving the car from San Pedro Sula to La Ceiba on Sunday morning near the town of San Juan Pueblo. Inside were the driver, Bengtson, and his girlfriend. The vehicle lost traction on a rainslicked highway and went off the road into a shallow ravine.

Bengtson had just returned from China, where he tested with the team “Chongqin Lifan”.
