The Embassy advises American citizens that the Honduran Presidential Inaugural Ceremonies will be taking place in Tegucigalpa on Wednesday, January 27, 2010.
Demonstrations are expected to take place around the city throughout the day, with large crowds gathering for the ceremonies and traffic disruptions likely. The Embassy recommends that American citizens avoid the areas around the National Stadium, the Brazilian Embassy, and the Pedagogica University.
The Embassy again strongly recommends that U.S. citizens avoid large gatherings and do not try to pass roadblocks if they encounter them. U.S. citizens should monitor the situation via media sources, including TV and radio when possible, and via the internet.

Taxi and bus drivers in Tegucigalpa took to the streets this morning blocking access to the Department of Public Works, Transportation and Housing (Soptravi), demanding a ban on issuing new operating permits for buses and taxis in the capital of Honduras.
The drivers threaten to continue causing problems indefinitely, saying the new director of transportation has approved permits for 600 new vehicles along city routes.
Transportation drivers are emphatic that Tegucigalpa has enough buses and taxis, like the rest of the country, and they are demanding that Soptravi investigate the department responsible for issuing permits.

Extreme security measures will be in place on the day that the presidential inauguration takes place.
In and around the National Stadium, more than 5,000 uniformed members of the Armed Forces and National Police will stand guard. Additionally, there will be 200 undercover police and military inside.
Each gate will have patrols, police vehicles and military trucks to be used in case of an emergency. A few meters from the entrances to the National Stadium, a third ring of security ensures a presence in strategic locations. Security will be active at the entrances to the city. These posts will be manned by 200 police officers, and an equal number of military officers.
