Honduras takes the Lead in Vegetables and Fruits Exports

The deputy director of Honduras’ National Agricultural Health Service (SENASA), Edgar Santamaría, confirmed that the country’s export volumes of non-traditional fruits and vegetables have exceeded those of the Dominican Republic.Honduras Vegetables and Fruits
Approximately 30,000 containers of these products are exported to the U.S. market and other countries.
Santamaría stated that Honduras has the lead in terms of both quality of exports and capacity to cover demand for these products.

 

Honduras’ most exported products are melons, with 16,000 containers; coloured peppers, with 1,000 containers; Jalapeño peppers, with 900 containers; sweet potato, with 60, and okra, with 250 containers.
The Government announced that Honduran melons in particular continue gaining demand in the international markets due to their high quality.
The authorities of the Secretariat of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG), through the technical staff of the National Agricultural Health Service (SENASA), promised to support businesses at the start of the 2014-2015 harvest.
