Hospital School Pharmacy Inventory Low

Hosptial School Medicines DisappearingA deficit of medicine in the Hospital School is increasing due to a lack of awareness among employees and medical staff who dispense medication without the backing of a record or medical prescription.

Maritza Ramírez, head of the Hospital School Pharmacy, said that there is no control over complacency. A doctor may go to the pharmacy and take a medication to give to someone because they are a friend without making a note; it is very difficult to keep an inventory. Ms. Ramírez believes they need to create awareness of the problem among the doctors and employees.

Ramírez confirmed that in the coming weeks they will receive around 650 million lempiras in drugs; however, she fears that at least 30 percent of the medicines will be dispensed without the proper paperwork.
