Aguan Valley Agreement Reached

honduras aguan valleyToday, landowners, farmers, and the executive branch of the Government of Honduras signed an agreement on the purchase and sale of land in the Aguán area, disputed for some time in northern Honduras.

The event was broadcast on national radio and television networks. President Porfirio Lobo Sosa and the Director of the National Agrarian Institute (INA), César Ham, signed the document for the Government of Honduras, alongside representatives of the Unified Movement of Peasants from the Aguán [Movimiento Unificado de Campesinos del Aguán (MUCA)] and the Movimiento Auténtico Reivindicador de Campesinos del Aguán (MARCA).The financial terms of the agreement for the purchase of the land in the Aguán Valley was endorsed by members of the verifying commissions of both movements.

Congressman Fights for Honduran Consumers

Congressman Sergio Castellanos has presented a motion before the Honduran National Congress to expedite the implementation of telephone number portability.

The National Commission for Telecommunications (CONATEL) announced that it would not be until the end of the year before they would be able to emplement phone number portability, despite the legislative decree established at the end of 2011, requiring it.

Honduran Congress to Approve New Mining Law


Mustang Alliances Inc MSTG -3.68% (“Mustang”) is pleased to provide a status update on the Honduran mining law.

The Committees of the National Congress of Honduras have finished writing a report on the new Mining Law and have submitted a draft of the Mining Law to the Congress for approval.

During the process of preparing the document, the committee that worked on it met with environmental groups, the mining sector and the authorities of the Directorate for the Promotion of Mining (DEFOMIN).

In a bid to streamline procedures and attract more investment to its mining sector, the details of the new law include an acceleration of the licensing process and simplification of rules for mining companies planning to operate in Honduras.
