Journalist Meza’s Murderers Named

Security Vice Minister, Armando Calidonio, held a news conference and showed a poster containing the photos of four men suspected in the death of journalist David Meza Montecinos.

According to police reports, implicated are three members of a gang of assassins who work for a cartel in the region, and a well known local businessman, for whom a reward is offered to anyone who provides information leading to his capture.

The suspects with arrest warrants are, Adalberto Martínez Núñez, 23, aka “Crazy Horse”, originally from La Ceiba, with a history of illicit associations; Marcos Joel Álvarez Barahona, 35, a native of La Ceiba, and Terry Dubón Thompson Ivans, a native of the city of Tela, who goes by the alias “Unicorn”; and Mario Roberto Guevara, former owner of Prestige night club, and a businessman from La Ceiba.

“These four people were involved directly in the death of journalist David Meza. Police are looking for and hope to catch them as soon as possible,” said the official.

The Security Under Secretary did not elaborate on the likely motive for the killing of Mr. Meza Montecinos, however, it is believed to be related to aspects of his journalism.

“Unfortunately there are links to organized crime and alleged extortion,” the Security Vice Minister stated.

David Meza was killed four months ago in the neighborhood of Alameda. He was assassinated while inside his car.
