UN Secretary General Ban-Ki-moon meets with Honduras President Juan Orlando Hernandez
The appeal was made by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in his address to the National Congress late on Wednesday.
Mr Ban, who is on his first visit to the country said that since 2010, Honduras has sought greater engagement with the UN system to provide full human rights protection to its citizens.
He said the support from Honduras is in line with a global effort he has launched called Human Rights UP Front.
Mr Ban urged Parliamentarians to work with the UN to end violence against women and girls and ensure the rights of indigenous peoples and minority groups.
He also called for the protection of human rights defenders, journalists and all those risking their lives to improve the lives of others.
During his visit to Honduras, the Secretary-General is also due to meet with President Juan Orlando Hernández and civil society representatives.
