Murder of Journalist may be tied to the Zetas Cartel

Investigators believe that the Kidnapping and subsequent murder of Ángel Alfredo Villatoro Rivera may have been ordered by Los Zetas Cartel

A warrant for arrest has been issued for another person suspected as one of the principal intellectual authors of the murder of HRN Journalist Ángel Alfredo Villatoro Rivera. No details as to the identification of this suspect have been released as of yet. So far the group involved in the kidnapping and subsequent murder has expanded to 10 of which 7 are in custody.
“Although 7 people are in custody, the case is not closed it is an ongoing investigation”; stated the district attorneys office.
According to the legal assessor Rigoberto Espinal; the crime is a product of Organized Crime and may be have ties of the International ZETAS cartel; which has increasingly taken over various parts of the county of Honduras over the past few years.
The Zetas Cartel is Mexico’s largest drug cartel in terms of geographical presence, overtaking its bitter rival, the Sinaloa Cartel. Due to their military background, The Zetas are well armed, highly organized and equipped; their brutal tactics, which include beheadings, torture and indiscriminate slaughter, show that they often prefer brutality over bribery. Zetas have a reputation for “silencing” those who are vocal and criticize their actions and organization.
No further details are being released at this time in order to not interfere with the investigation.
