President Lobo Creates New Commission

President Pepe Lobo established a new Interagency Commission for Medicinal Products (Comisión Interinstitucional de Medicamentos [CIM]) yesterday, December 15, 2010.

The purpose of the new CIM is the transparent procurement and distribution of drugs for public hospitals in the country, the President said.

Together with the Minister of the Interior and Population, Áfrico Madrid, and the Minister of Health, Arturo Bendaña, President Lobo swore in Julio Cesar Cabrera Hernández, Leonardo Villeda, Isaías Moran Pavón and Miguel Ángel Domínguez Mejía as members of the Commission.

The civil society representative, Julio Cesar Cabrera Hernández, explained, “The idea is to ensure transparency in the tendering and purchase of medicines; for that President Lobo Sosa created the CIM, to guarantee the legitimacy of the actions of the Secretary of Health.” He said this effort was taken up by the President because it is imperative to monitor the processes in the area of health to keep in line with the State Procurement Law, the Code of Ethics for Public Officials, the Transparency Act and Access to Public Information.
