President Lobo Disperses Funds for Rain Victims

President Porfirio Lobo Sosa yesterday dispersed more than 9,600,000 lempiras for the construction and repair of dwellings which were damaged by the torrential rains that fell in October.

During recent tours of the southern region and other departments in the West of the country, representatives met with mayors of the municipalities hit hardest by the rains to determine those most in need. The President invited those mayors to the Presidential House yesterday to receive funds to rebuild their towns.

The Mayor of Morolica, Choluteca, José Barahona Laínez, received 1,569,810 lempiras for the construction of twenty-eight homes, and the repair of thirty-six.

The Mayor of San Antonio de Flores, Marlon Fabricio Díaz, was given a check for 2,750,000 lempiras for the total reconstruction of fifty-five houses.

The President of the Association of Municipalities of Honduras (AMHON), Carlos Bendeck, received on behalf of the Mayor of Atima, Santa Bárbara, Héctor Arturo Alcántara, 2,261,000 lempiras for the repair of forty-one homes and the construction of twenty-one houses. Mr. Bendeck was also given a check for the Mayor of Lepaera, Lempira Edgar Antonio Murillo, for 3,000,000 lempiras. The aldermen were unable to meet the President at the Presidential House in Tegucigalpa to receive these resources.

The reconstruction and repair of homes in those areas affected by the recent rains was promised by President Lobo Sosa. Present at the delivery of the funds, were authorities of the Permanent Commission of Contingencies (COPECO) and representatives of the municipalities.
