Santa Rita Benefitting from IDB Funds

Honduras’ Santa Rita municipal government, in the western department of Copan, aims to finish installing the city center’s new sewerage system by mid-December.

The project, financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), is being developed at a cost of some 76 million lempiras (US$4 million).

Due to the heavy rainfall that has affected the country, construction work is currently at 70%, according to Santa Rita mayor Wilmer Mejia. The project is expected to be finished by December 13th, Mejia said. The local government also expects to develop a project to improve the city’s existing potable water network within the next few months.

The network is old, and so it is therefore necessary to develop a new system to guarantee water availability in all households in Santa Rita, according to the mayor.
