Standard Fruit to Lay Off Workers

Standard Fruit Company legal adviser, Francisco Romero Baca, has said that “layoffs in several farms of the banana company are inevitable, due to the national economic situation.”

The top executive of the banana company explained that the farms in question are located in the Central Coyoles area where more than 1,200 permanent workers are hired.

“This is a negative consequence of the national finances. What needs to happen here is a reduction in number of the staff”.

He did not mention the number of employees that might be unemployed, because they are in negotiations with the Union of Workers of the Standard Fruit Company.
