Former Ambassador to Cuba from the government of Manuel Zelaya, received the “Friendship Medal” from that country; a distinction awarded by the Cuban Council of State. Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, presented the award.
The ceremony was held at the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where the former Honduran diplomat, Juan Ramon Elvir Salgado, thanked the Cubans for their friendship and stated he regretted not having concluded the matters of bilateral cooperation. Elvir Salgado, ambassador since 2007, recalled different cooperation projects agreed to by Honduras and Cuba, which addressed areas of literacy, energy saving and health care programs. Salgado noted that Honduras urgently needs to revise its Constitution so that all sectors are included. “Honduras should be for all Hondurans, and not for just a few of them.”
