Former Ambassador to Cuba from the government of Manuel Zelaya, received the “Friendship Medal” from that country; a distinction awarded by the Cuban Council of State. Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, presented the award.
The ceremony was held at the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where the former Honduran diplomat, Juan Ramon Elvir Salgado, thanked the Cubans for their friendship and stated he regretted not having concluded the matters of bilateral cooperation. Elvir Salgado, ambassador since 2007, recalled different cooperation projects agreed to by Honduras and Cuba, which addressed areas of literacy, energy saving and health care programs. Salgado noted that Honduras urgently needs to revise its Constitution so that all sectors are included. “Honduras should be for all Hondurans, and not for just a few of them.”

MY MEETING WITH ZELAYA
Some have asked what happened to the meeting with Zelaya that the Commander mentioned in yesterday’s reflection on Wednesday, March 4th.
We met. I had no other alternative. I found the time.
I am obliged to say as much as I can in few words, or not to say anything, and that’s something I cannot always do.
I have just finished speaking about Juan Bosch, in a very compact summary, about the expedition against Trujillo, the dramatic episodes involving Dominican revolutionaries, complaining that the real story has not been yet written.

President Jose Manuel Zelaya Rosales met on Wednesday with his Cuban counterpart, President Raul Castro. Zelaya was on a working visit in Cuba participating in the 11th International Encounter of Economists on Globalization and Development Problems that is underway in Havana.
During this working meeting on Wednesday afternoon, both leaders
analyzed the state of bilateral relations and expressed their common interest in strengthening existing cooperation ties.
They also spoke about the current challenges that Cuba and Honduras face amidst today’s complex world economic situation and other topics of regional and international interest.
