Honduran Police Recover Stolen Motorcycles

Fifteen motorcycles are now on the premises of the DNIC, which were recovered yesterday by police authorities in an operation carried out in various garages and parking lots located throughout Tegucigalpa.

Bikes were seized from the Cerro Grande, Las Ayestas, Las Pavas, and Villafranca neighborhoods. Other stolen motorcycles were located along the highway to Olancho and in San Francisco.

Children Slain in Sabá Honduras

Eight people were massacred in the rural town of Sabá, in the Northern Department of Colón, over a land conflict police authorities reported.

The Chief of Police of Colón, Osmín Bardales, said their investigation found that the deaths occurred when members of the same family boarded a vehicle and were slain with machetes and AK-47 assault rifles. Bardales says the ears were severed on some of the bodies.

Of the eight killed, four were adults, and four children. One child was a 1-year-old boy, and three girls ages 7, 12 and 15. The other victims were two men and two women. Police identified one of the deceased as Manuel Antonio, 45 years old. The other seven were members of a family with the surname of Contreras, who had just moved into the community of El Regadero, Sabá.

Mara 18 Gang Members Captured

Four alleged members of the “Mara 18″ were captured, and another killed, during a shootout with the preventive police in the evening hours on Saturday.

The altercation, which lasted several minutes, took place in the La Planeta neighborhood of La Lima, Puerto Cortés. The dead alleged gang member could not be identified through forensics. He was between 25 and 30 years of age, wearing blue jeans, black shoes, and a blue and white checked shirt. Under the victim was found a revolver and three shell cartridges.

Also wounded was a police officer, who successfully recovered from his wounds in a San Pedro Sula private clinic.
