Micheletti Moves Out

President Roberto Micheletti will be moving out of the presidential palace today to ease the transition for Pepe Lobo and his family.

Micheletti said today that he will keep a low profile until President-elect Porfirio Lobo takes office next week, and has put his cabinet in charge of the majority of tasks at hand. Micheletti will be stepping out from the limelight saying, “I retire to my house for the peace of the nation and because I will not be an obstacle to the new government, but only temporarily I depart.”

Arias Will Not Attend Inauguration

Costa Rican President Oscar Arias told reporters he will not attend the swearing-in of President-elect Pepe Lobo because Micheletti refused to resign to add legitimacy to the government of Lobo. Arias said Lobo appeared “weak” after failing to convince Micheletti to step down.

President Roberto Micheletti said President Oscar Arias needs a psychologist to address mood swings after the Nobel laureate refused to attend the Jan. 27th inauguration of President-elect Porfirio Lobo, according to statements made to HRN radio.

“I don’t understand that man. He seems to be depressed. He needs psychological attention. He should seek a doctor to help him,” Micheletti told HRN.

Honduras Takes Leave of ALBA

The National Congress of Honduras ratified departure from the Bolivian Alliance for the Americas (ALBA).

The executive decree sent by President Roberto Micheletti was ratified by the majority of Congress with 128 votes in favor, and five not in favor, those being members of the Democratic Unification Party (UD) and the Innovation and Unity Party. Micheletti spoke of leaving ALBA in a Cabinet meeting held on December 15th, and the next day sent a decree to Congress for ratification.
