The Human Rights Foundation (HRF) calls for the resignation of the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Jose Miguel Insulza. HRF published a 300-page legal report exposing numerous errors in judgment, gross negligence of duty, and willful complicity in the undermining of the Inter-American Democratic Charter by the OAS secretary general. President Lobo is in El Salvador

Salvadoran President Mauricio Funes, is meeting today in Guatemala with their President, Alvaro Colom, and the President of Honduras, Porfirio Lobo, to address
Honduras’ return to international recognition.
President Funes told reporters that they plan to discuss ways to help Honduras “advance in its internal process to obtain a consensus, the construction of harmony, and the coexistence of peace and democracy”.
The talks are scheduled to take place before the meeting being held of Central American Presidents with U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.

Lula May Support Honduras Returning to OAS

The Brazilian government considers it would be “significant” for Honduras to return to the Organization of American States (OAS), and would welcome concrete measures towards reconciliation, said the Brazilian presidential spokesman, Marcelo Baumbach.
“President (Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva) does not want to endure a situation of a breakdown of dialogue with the Honduran government….he questions the precedent of an institutional breakdown, but considers it important to return Honduras to the OAS,” he said. “They need to take internal measures” such as the “constitution of a truth commission, perhaps,” according to Baumbach.

Honduras Will Not Attend LA Summit

Honduras was not invited to the Summit of Unity of Latin America and the Caribbean to be held in Mexico, afterall.
Mexican Secretary of Foreign Relations, Patricia Espinosa, affirmed that the Honduran government has not been invited to participate, because of its current standings with the OAS.
The event is scheduled to take place February 21st to 23rd at the Riviera Maya, and will integrate the Rio Group Summit and the Latin American and Caribbean Integration and Development (CALC) organization. The focus will be the regional integration issue, but it is possible that the situation in Honduras and the earthquake in Haiti will occupy part of the discussion.
