Honduras is close to reaching an agreement to play Ghana in an international friendly on March 3, 2010 in South Africa.
The match is expected to open the newly-built Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit, which has a 46,000 seat capacity, and will be the same venue for Honduras’ Group H opener against Chile on June 16, 2010.
Coach Reinaldo Rueda says next month’s friendly will help the players acclimatize to conditions before the World Cup tournament kick-starts. He plans to field a strong squad that will be led by striker David Suazo, Wilson Palacios, Maynor Figueroa, and Hendry Thomas.

Honduras defeated the U.S.A. by a score of 3 – 1 in front of 18,626 fans at the Home Depot Center — the largest crowd ever for a soccer friendly at the Home Depot Center.
The Hondurans dominated in the stands, and the team quickly asserted themselves against the U.S. squad. Honduran players Carlos Pavon and Amado Guevara are on the list of 19 soccer players chosen by World Cup-bound Honduras for Saturday’s friendly game against the United States at the Home Depot Center.
Honduras Coach Reinaldo Rueda has implemented only Honduran-based team members for the match, with one exception – Roger Espinoza of Major League Soccer’s Kansas City Wizards, a talented midfielder.
Goalkeeper Noel Valladares and defenders Osman Chavez, Emilio Izaguirre and Mauricio Sabillon, and of course, Pavon, are the only players included who played in Honduras’ 3-2 loss to the U.S. in San Pedro Sula, Honduras back in October, when the Americans gained their spot in the South Africa 2010 World Cup. Unfortunately, Guevara was suspended for that match.

Seleccion players Amado Guevara and Carlos Pavon are among the twenty man crew who traveled with the Honduran national team to play in Saturday’s friendly soccer game against the United States at the Home Depot Center (9 p.m. ET, Fox Soccer Channel, Galavision).
The team’s coach (from Colombia) Reinaldo Rueda, took the Honduran national team to Florida for practice. In a warmup game, the Hondurans beat Canada’s U-23 team 3-1 on goals by Erick Norales, Danilo Turcios and Georgie Welcome.

Goalkeepers: Ricardo Canales (Motagua), Noel Valladares (Olimpia), Donis Escober (Olimpia).
