Platense vs. Hispano Game Postponed

Problems with the stadium light towers postponed the Hispano/Platense soccer game last night.

The teams were scheduled to play at the Carlos Miranda stadium in Comayagua, but heavy rains on Friday caused failures in the transformers, which could not be repaired in time for the match to proceed yesterday evening.

Officials of both clubs failed to agree on the time to play the rescheduled game (set for today), as the visitors sought to play at 11:00 am, while the locals insisted they play at 2:30 pm.

Marathón Advances in CONCACAF

Honduras’ Marathón lost 2-1 to Tauro of Panama Wednesday, but will still advance to the group stage of the CONCACAF Champions League.

Claudio Labarinas scored in the 24th minute for Marathón.  It was Labarinas’ third goal in two games, having scored the first and last in Marathón’s victory in Panama. Luis Renteria of Tauro scored two late goals in the second half to win the game, but his team still loses out on further CONCACAF competition.

Motagua Ties FC Toronto Final Score: 2-2

A 2-2 draw with Toronto FC, has left CD Motagua out of the CONCACAF competition. The Toronto Reds come from behind twice to get a rare away result in front of a very loud Estadio Nacional in Tegucigalpa.

Former TFC star Amado Guevara had both of the Honduras goals in what was an exciting affair, with the Hondurans dominating possession.
