The U.S. Ambassador to Honduras told the Dock Board of the Port of New Orleans on Thursday that the port plays a critical role in developing international trade and that the state’s “historic relationship” with the Central American country will continue to improve commercial ties.

The National Congress of Honduras ratified departure from the Bolivian Alliance for the Americas (ALBA).
The executive decree sent by President Roberto Micheletti was ratified by the majority of Congress with 128 votes in favor, and five not in favor, those being members of the Democratic Unification Party (UD) and the Innovation and Unity Party. Micheletti spoke of leaving ALBA in a Cabinet meeting held on December 15th, and the next day sent a decree to Congress for ratification.

Dozens of Honduran farmers have blocked the customs office of El Salvador in the capital city for nearly a week to protest against El Salvador’s rejection of their products.
Santiago Ruiz, president of the National Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of Honduras, said the farmers used their trucks and machines to block the office. El Salvador forbids the imports of Honduran milk products, vegetables and shrimps.
Tuesday was the sixth day since the farmers have blocked the customs office, causing millions of dollars in losses.

Evergreen Taiwanese shipping company recently opened a trade route between Puerto Cortes and Taipei, and plans to boost direct trade between Honduras and Taiwan, according to Wally Su, Economic Adviser for the Asian nation.
Evergreen is considered the world’s fourth largest shipping company by the number of vessels in its fleet, and cargo volumes mobilized, serving more than eighty destinations in as many countries.
The goal for Honduras is to mobilize some 120 containers per trip, which would be between 400 and 500 imports and exports a month. Evergreen has equipment to transport all kinds of goods. Sunday Honduras expects the arrival of a vessel with another 40 containers.
