Transportation Security for the Capital

The Minister of Soptravi, Miguel Pastor, announced that tonight a new security program will begin for the protection of traveling Honduran citizens, tourists, and students in the capital. The plan, which will be implemented between 6:00 pm and 10:00 pm, will include most of the routes serviced by public transportation vehicles, especially those who have reported the highest crime rates.

Minister Pastor said they will be coordinating with the Ministry of Security and transportation leaders, and will be giving protection for “internal and external” users. Each transportation unit will have at least one armed police officer on board who is in communication with the other officers on other buses. In cases where a policeman cannot be aboard, the bus will be escorted by a patrol unit.

Additionally, there will be police surveillance at bus stops throughout the Tegucigalpa area.
