The seventh annual summit of ‘Universities Fighting World Hunger‘ opened this morning in the city of Catacamas, Olancho.
The President of Honduras, Porfirio Lobo Sosa, inaugurated the summit on the campus of the National University of Agriculture (UNA – Universidad Nacional Agraria), with Honduran cabinet ministers, international organizations, and agricultural universities from Central America, the United States of America, Nigeria, Chile, and Mexio in attendance. This year’s theme is, “Feed the Future: Honduras, a Country in Action.” This theme highlights the actions that Honduras is carrying out to fight hunger and poverty as a ‘Feed the Future’ Country.
Last year, the 6th Annual Universities Fighting World Hunger summit was held in Ontario, and Emelisa Callejas, the Consul General to the United States from Honduras, and Laurie Willing, of Outreach Honduras International, in Atlanta, USA were both speakers at the event.
The summit will take place from March 2nd through 4th, 2012.
