Weather Alert Extended for Copan and Ocotepeque

COPECO has extended the green alert for two departments located west of Honduras that have been under weather watch since this past Thursday at the possibility of rains causing the Ulua river which is one of the largest river in Honduras to overflow and cause severe damages.

Copeco indicated everyone to be under precaution during this 72 hours green alert in Copan and Ocotepeque while the rain is increasing; they also recommends the emergency committees and the population in these areas to be aware of the weather while it evolves and take preventive measures in case it is necessary.

Copan and Ocotepeque have been under weather alert since this Thursday as well as some areas in Cortes and Yoro.

Copeco added that besides the tropical wave that has affected the country in the last few days, a system of low pressure has started east of Honduras and Nicaragua which will cause rains in the Honduran territory.

According to Copeco, the rains have been affecting mostly the departments of Lempira, Intibuca, Ocotepeque, Copan, La Paz, Francisco Morazan, Valle, Choluteca and El Paraiso.
