Banks Increased Capital in Honduras

Five commercial banks authorized to operate in Honduras increased their capital during 2010, according to a report by the Central Bank of Honduras (BCH).

According to the Commission of National Banking and Insurance (CNBS), the minimum capital required for each institution was 300 million lempiras. There are 17 private banks in Honduras. It is always good to know other financial and saving options.

A BCH report shows that Ficohsa Bank increased its capital from 1,267,300 to 2,063,000 Lempiras. Banpaís saw an increase of 400 million lempiras when its capital went from 1,000 to 1,400 million.

FICENSA raised its capital from 300 to 500 million, up 200 million, and for its part, Banco Popular Covelo increased its capital from 321.2 to 441.9 million lempiras, equivalent to a 120.7 million difference.

Banco Azteca made an increase of 28.5 million.

Of the 17 institutions authorized to operate in the Honduran market, Banco Atlantida is the largest, with 3.500 million Lempiras in capital, followed by BAC with 2.500 million, Ficohsa at 2.063 million, Occidente with 1.600 million, and Banpaís with 1.400 million.
