Big Game Tomorrow

Honduran players Carlos Pavon and Amado Guevara are on the list of 19 soccer players chosen by World Cup-bound Honduras for Saturday’s friendly game against the United States at the Home Depot Center.

Honduras Coach Reinaldo Rueda has implemented only Honduran-based team members for the match, with one exception – Roger Espinoza of Major League Soccer’s Kansas City Wizards, a talented midfielder.

Goalkeeper Noel Valladares and defenders Osman Chavez, Emilio Izaguirre and Mauricio Sabillon, and of course, Pavon, are the only players included who played in Honduras’ 3-2 loss to the U.S. in San Pedro Sula, Honduras back in October, when the Americans gained their spot in the South Africa 2010 World Cup. Unfortunately, Guevara was suspended for that match.

Saturday evening’s game is the first World Cup preparatory game of the year for both Honduras and the United States, but Coach Bob Bradley’s team contains only two of the starters who played in the October game with Honduras — defender Jonathan Bornstein and forward Conor Casey.

It should prove a worthwhile match-up, with both teams posing challenges for the other to exhibit why they qualified to play in the World Cup showdown.
