Chavez May Play Today

The friendly soccer game at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale against Venezuela tonight may feature Honduras’s “el hijo del viento” (the son of the wind).

That is the nickname for Marvin Chavez, the Honduran soccer player for Marath&oactue;n who has been playing with FC Dallas in Philadelphia. Chavez was called up by our National Team because of his exceptional scoring this year.

Marvin Chavez was born November 3, 1983 in La Ceiba, Honduras, and Chávez was also part of the Honduras squad which took part in the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup. He is now in Florida, awaiting tonight’s match up.

Top player Roger Espinoza was called in to support the team as well. The first time Espinoza was called up for the Honduran national football team was by Reinaldo Rueda to participate in the UNCAF Nations Cup in 2009, which just so happened to be held in Honduras. He made three appearances during the tournament where he wore the number 13. He scored his first goal for the national team in a 1-0 win against El Salvador to give Honduras 3rd place in the competition.

Let’s welcome them back! GO HONDURAS!
