Chimirri Will Remain Imprisioned

The former manager of the Honduran Telecommunications Company (Hondutel), Marcelo Chimirri, will continue to be held in the National Penitentiary where he will remain until his trial, as a 5 million lempira bail was not granted by Judge Martha Murillo.

The hearing was held in the afternoon after a discussion of which substitute judge would know the case.  Martha Murillo was assigned.  The substitution of judges was made because the prior Judge, Silvia Torres, was challenged by the defense of Chimirri on grounds that she was not acting within the law.

It is the second time Chimirri’s defense put in an application for a review of his confinement at the penitentiary vs. bail.  Both times the request has been rejected, by Judges Torres and Murillo, respectively.  The administrators of justice have verified they have custody of Chimirri who has been jailed for more than three months.

Marlon Duarte, Chimirri’s lawer said that in the next 24 hours he will submit an appeal to the Court of Appeals for the freedom of Chimirri.

Judge Murillo decided to allow a public trial in the case against the former manager of Hondutel for receiving part of a bribe amounting to 1.09 million dollars.

Tomorrow another trial is scheduled to begin for Chimirri, for the crimes of abuse of authority and embezzlement.

The people of Honduras is happy that he stays in the slammer, but we want our money back.
