Clinton Speaks of Honduras’ Return to OAS

“It is time for the hemisphere as a whole to move forward and welcome Honduras back into the inter-American community,” announced Hillary Clinton at the OAS general assembly in Lima.

Ms. Clinton said the region saw Honduras elect Lobo in “free and fair elections” and “fulfill his obligations under the Tegucigalpa-San Jose accords.” She also reminded the group that Lobo has formed a national reconciliation government and a truth commission to look into former events.

33 OAS member countries agreed on creating a group of experts to study the conditions needed to return Honduras to the pan-American body, according to Peruvian Foreign Minister, Jose Antonio Garcia Belaunde. Mr. Belaunde said the group will have until July 31st to present its conclusions.
