Cocaine Bust by Honduran Military

A drug-laden boat was intercepted by the Navy of Honduras in Gracias a Dios yesterday. The ship was carrying 36 bales of cocaine, but it is estimated that the total amount can reach about a ton and a half of the powdery substance.

The Chief of Staff, René Osorio Canales, said in a press conference that the seizure was made yesterday at about 1:52 pm. Members of the Armed Forces, with the support of the U.S. Army and National Police, identified through radar systems, the presence of the ship at sea, which is believed to have come from Colombia or Venezuela.

“Once the boat was identified, members of the Navy moved in three boats” … “At 3:42 pm they commenced the interception operation, wherein four people were captured, of which three are Hondurans and one a Colombian,” said Osorio Canales.

The officer assumed that some bundles were thrown out to sea.

Inside the boat with no flag were 10 barrels that had been used to load the engine with fuel.

The drugs were moved to Laguna de Caratasca in order for the public prosecutor’s office to make a final count, and then file charges against the four detainees.

“The boat had no flag, and the detainees were interrogated, of whom three are Hondurans and one Colombian,” reiterated the head of the Armed Forces.

It is assumed that the Los Zetas cartel is operating in this area of Honduras, in addition to other illegal organizations, but they really do not know who is responsible for the drug trafficking, according to the official.

For his part, the Secretary of Defense, Marlon Pascua Cerrato said that they maintain constant communication with other Central American countries, where information is exchanged on operations to combat drug trafficking.

“The captured boat has two engines, 200 horsepower each,” concluded Mr. Pascua.
