A Colorful Weekend in Honduras

More than three thousand people in San Pedro Sula dressed in pink on Saturday in the “Walk for Life” in support of the fight against breast cancer, and Sunday the streets were filled with the multi-colored participants of Honduras’s first Color Run, raising funds for the Mario Rivas Hospital Pediatrics Unit. The colorful weekend brought people together and brought awareness to two important causes.

Walk for Life – Breast Cancer Awareness

The pink Walk for Life 5k began at 7:00 am in Central Park, and ended at Los Próceres Boulevard, with a finish line and a live musical concert.  A demonstration of the four steps to practice a breast self-examination was performed in an effort to help women with early detection, an important step in combatting the disease.

Lorena Alfaro, a committee director that helps the League Against Cancer, said that it was a great pleasure that citizens supported the pink walk, and that the turnout provided great satisfaction for the League Against Cancer. The group encourages mammograms and regular doctor visits in addition to self examination.
