CONATEL To Issue New Numbers

Comision Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (Conatel), the national telecoms regulator in Honduras, will be adding an additional digit to fixed telephone numbers. As of November 14th, the numbers will change from seven to eight digits.

The plan has outlined for the prefix of the number 2 to be added to all telephone numbers. Conatel stated they are making the change in order to take care of the anticipated demand for additional telephone numbers, and to bring the country into line with international norms.

They believe this additional digit will increase capacity sufficiently to provide telephone numbers to the public for the next 50 years.
