Congressman Fights for Honduran Consumers

Congressman Sergio Castellanos has presented a motion before the Honduran National Congress to expedite the implementation of telephone number portability.

The National Commission for Telecommunications (CONATEL) announced that it would not be until the end of the year before they would be able to emplement phone number portability, despite the legislative decree established at the end of 2011, requiring it.

Current service providers were to register user numbers long before now, but many companies were granted extensions.

Number portability would allow cellular customers control over their cell phone number. This would provide the opportunity for clients to seek better rates and services from other providers, yet continue to use the same mobile phone number.

The motion calls for sanctions to be applied to any communications company that does not start in a reasonable time with the registration of phone numbers and implementation of number portability.
