Consulates Being Appointed

Foreign Chancellor of the Republic, Mario Canahuati, has decided to take an inventory of the various Honduran embassies and consulate offices in the United States, Mexico and Panama.

A commission composed of members of the High Court of Auditors (TSC), Prosecutor, and Chancery will travel tomorrow to meet and receive the consulates and ambassadors in Mexico, the United States and Panama.

Canahuati said that today he will appoint those consulates and ambassadors, and that by early next week he expects the operations in those offices to be normalizing “for the benefit of our citizens, and logically to begin the process of investing in the image of the country, and strengthening diplomatic relations” with those nations.

Canahuati believes that government measures to restore diplomatic relations with several countries are already showing positive signs. This week, Honduras will be receiving representatives of the governments of the United States and other nations to discuss the restoration of the political and trade relations with other countries.

“There is no doubt that there has been an important step in the European Union with countries like Spain, Italy, Germany, France and the rest of the EU,” he reported.

Spain has already requested that we send our ambassador there, stated Mr. Canahuati.
