Death of Mark Goldstein

Mark Goldstein and Marjorie Alexandra Gonzales had been engaged to marry for a year and a half, but they were ultimately united by fate in the airplane crash that took their lives yesterday.

The night before the fatal accident, the two had celebrated with Mark’s mother Alice, his sisters Lori Jan and Deana, his sons, and nephews in a tribute that Congress gave to his father. Mark was also sworn in as a congressman by the President of the Legislative Chamber, Juan Orlando Hernandez.

Mark Frederick Goldstein was the eldest of a family of great repute in Honduras. He was a business man, a man of many friends, a man full of kindness and above all, a father and son.

His hero was always his father, Don Gilberto “Pitch” Goldstein. Mark inherited his charisma, joy for life, and the wisdom to manage the companies he founded. In Honduras he earned the same respect and admiration that his father enjoyed, thanks to his wisdom in the family business and in the major business groups to which he belonged.

Mark loved his children Paula, Adam, and Andrew, who he often claimed were his greatest pride.

In the field of politics, Mark Goldstein was characterized as a stronghold of the National Party. His merit and initiative gained him honorable positions such as member of the National Congress of Honduras. Mark always felt proud of Honduras and pledged to continue working for his country as he did during his nearly 50 years of life.

Banco Atlantida, Hotel and Villas Telamar, Atlantida Insurance, and the National Television Society were among many of the companies owned by the family. Mark was considered to be a fair boss, and admired by his employees and fellow board members.

Marjorie Alexandra Gonzales Melgar, or simply, Margie Gonzales, was noted for many qualities. At 25, she enjoyed life to the fullest. Margie was a very lively, charismatic person, and a lover of music and dancing. She enjoyed a loving relationship with Mark Goldstein, and was able to earn the respect and admiration of many.

Margie was the creator and host of the children’s program “Chiquiclub”. The original T.V. production was broadcast Saturdays at noon, and earned her the title “Queen of the children.” Ms. Gonzales herself gave birth almost ten years ago to her only daughter, Alanis Montserrat.

The news of the death of the pilot, Luis Lopez, dismayed Honduran society. The Goldstein family said they had much esteem and respect for Lopez.

The bereaved Goldstein family asked last night that people to not send flower arrangements, but to please make a donation to “Aldeas Infantiles SOS”.
