Earthquake Shakes San Pedro Sula

An earthquake rattled the Honduran-Guatemalan border yesterday. There were no immediate reports of casualties.

The tremor, measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale, struck 260 km north of the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa at 5:40 p.m. (2340 GMT), said Francisco Moncada, an official with the Bureau of Disaster Monitoring.

The quake was widely felt in Honduras’ western areas and northern Caribbean cities but no immediate reports of property damage or casualties have been made, he said.
